The Falling Man

fallingmanAmongst the many horrifying photos of 9/11 were the ones of the jumpers. Of the estimated 50-200 people who jumped, a number of them them were caught on film. One in particular, shown above, seemed to stand out and received much coverage. It was taken by Richard Drew of AP.

Esquire magazine had an article in September 2003 titled ‘Falling Man’ concluded that it was most likely Jonathan Briley, a 43 year old sound engineer who worked at ‘Windows On The World‘.

Yesterday, the Mirror of London concludes that it was indeed Briley. In another photo in this sequence it’s revealed that the jumper had an orange t-shirt underneath the white shirt that which was blown away by the wind, seen here:

fallingman2The t-shirt appears identical to the one Jonathan wore to work everyday. Channel 4 in Britain will air a documentary on ‘The Falling Man’ today.

This excellent but very disturbing documentary, “The Falling Man”, can be viewed here on my Blog in the “Unbelievables” section.  But, viewer discretion is advised because the documtary is about the “jumpers” on that terrible day.
